Botox near Fort Lauderdale, FLThinking of getting Botox® or Dysport? Arguably the most popular injectable on the market, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing muscles in the face. As terrifying as that sounds, the products’ great reputation stems from its excellent results, minimal downtime, and few side effects. Even so, you understandably may have many unanswered questions before deciding if Botox® is right for you. Here’s what you need to know before getting Botox® or Dysport.

  1. Early Bird Gets the Worm

Many patients are under the impression that Botox® or Dysport injections are solely for an older demographic looking to reduce the appearance of an already aging profile, but this is not the case. Preventative Botox® is a term referring to treating younger patients in their late 20s and early 30s when expression lines are starting to become visible. Starting toxin treatments early will not only prevent worsening and reduce the treatments needed later in life but can entirely reverse the first appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The result is a younger look for a much longer time.

  1. Beware of Special Deals

If the price for a Botox® or Dysport session seems too good to be true, it probably is. Beware of any special pricing for injectable treatments as this means you could be getting a diluted dosage instead. Another concern is that the provider could have purchased the product from a supplier in a different country, where government price controls have pharmaceutical prices much lower than in the United States. Not only is this a bad idea because it’s illegal, but because unauthorized suppliers can compromise the safety and effectiveness of injectables. In addition, make sure you are doing research on who is injecting you. Just because someone has a medical degree does not mean that they are the most qualified and safest person to handle your injections, and their price may reflect that. Your safest bet is to find a highly qualified plastic surgeon with training, experience, and a good reputation.

  1. Things to Avoid Before Your Appointment

You should be aware of possible bruising and swelling at the injection site after your appointment. However, there are precautions you can take to minimize these side effects. Most Botox® veterans know to avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen before an appointment, as they reduce the blood’s ability to clot, increasing the risk of bruising. Other seemingly innocuous items to avoid are fish oil, cinnamon, red wine, green tea, ginger, and multivitamins at least a week before treatments. Many antioxidants can tamper with the fragility of blood vessels and prevent clotting. Make sure you consult your doctor for a full list of precautions to take at least two weeks before your appointment.
