Fat Transfer near Fort Lauderdale, FL

Fort Lauderdale and Broward County individuals who are bothered by lines and depressions caused by aging on the skin may choose to undergo fat transfer. At his Coral Springs practice, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David J. Levens offers fat grafting treatments, which utilize a patient’s own fat to restore youthful volume to the face and smooth the skin.

What is Fat Grafting?

As a part of this procedure, fat is first removed from a harvest site on your body where you exhibit excess fat stores. After being purified, Dr. Levens injects the fat into targeted sites on your face where there has been a loss of volume and/or skin has become thin, and hollows and wrinkles have developed.

Many patients and plastic surgeons like fat grafting as an alternative to injectable fillers such as Radiesse® or Restylane® as it uses natural tissues from the patient’s body.

How Much Does Fat Transfer Cost?

The cost of fat transfers is based upon an individual treatment plan that Dr. Levens develops during your consultation.  After the appointment, we provide you with a total cost and explain our payment options, including cash, personal check, Visa®, MasterCard® and American Express®.  If you are interested in financing your fat grafting, our patient coordinators will explain how to apply for CareCredit®, Alphaeon Credit, or Prosper® Healthcare Lending.

Benefits of Fat Transfer

Many men and women prefer to enhance their appearances with fat transfers because the procedure has fewer risks that other treatments, such as injectables and dermal fillers.  Because your own fat is used, your body is less likely to reject the injections, and you will not have an allergic reaction.  Fat transfer also allows Dr. Levens to carefully sculpt the treatment area to give you optimum results with little to no downtime.

Good Candidates for Fat Grafting

Many individuals may be ideal candidates for fat grafting as there is little to no chance of an adverse reaction, as is a rare occurrence with some injectable treatments. Patients who desire fat grafting treatments should have a suitable harvest site on their body. This may include the midsection, thighs or buttocks, most commonly.

Patients often choose fat grafting for:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Depressed scars
  • Laugh lines
  • Facial contouring
  • Hollow skin
  • Thin lips

During your consultation with Dr. Levens, he will devise an appropriate treatment plan for you and make suggestions about how he can help you reach your aesthetic goals.

What Happens During Fat Grafting Treatment?

When you undergo your fat grafting treatment, you will likely be given a local anesthetic with sedation. To begin, Dr. Levens will make a small incision at the harvest site. Dr. Levens will then use a thin tube called a cannula and remove a conservative amount of fat cells from the harvest site through liposuction. This removed fat will be purified and prepared for injection. The incision will be closed with sutures, and a bandage will be applied.

Using a thin needle, Dr. Levens will carefully inject the purified fat into the depressed area of skin. This will cause an immediate correction of the area.

After Your Fat Grafting Procedure

When you leave Dr. Levens’ practice, you will be given aftercare instructions. You may experience some swelling or redness, but these are temporary side effects.

The skin-smoothing effects of your fat grafting treatment in Coral Springs can last up to a year or longer. During this time, your body may naturally break down the injected fat, and it will be reabsorbed. As this happens, you may wish to return to Dr. Levens for follow-up treatments.
