Neck Lift near Fort Lauderdale, FL
The neck is prone to exhibit sagging skin and extra fat. For many people in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County, these are common signs of the aging process. For others, they are an unfortunate result of genetic factors and lifestyle choices. Fortunately, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David J. Levens can perform several cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate the neck area, including neck lift surgery at his Coral Springs practice.
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift performed alone is very unusual. Most commonly, a facelift is performed along with a neck lift when there is overall facial aging including the neck. For select younger patients with neck looseness only, neck lift surgery restores a youthful appearance to the neck by smoothing out the skin and natural fat.
How Much Does a Neck Lift Cost?
The cost of neck lift surgery is based upon an individual treatment plan that Dr. Levens develops during your consultation. After the appointment, we provide you with a total cost and explain our payment options, including cash, personal check, Visa®, MasterCard® and American Express®. If you are interested in financing your neck lift, our patient coordinators will explain how to apply for CareCredit®, Alphaeon Credit, or Prosper® Healthcare Lending.
Benefits of a Neck Lift
A neck lift can take years off your appearance by:
- Giving the jawline and area under the chin more definition.
- Eliminating banding, “turkey wattle” and other embarrassing cosmetic signs of aging.
- Smoothing out the fat and tightening underlying muscles to give the neck a smooth and youthful appearance.
Good Candidates for Neck Lift
A neck lift is best for treating:
- Sagging neck tissues.
- Drooping jowls.
- Neck bands or excess neck fat.
The best candidates for a neck lift are healthy non-smokers, who are motivated to improve their appearance. As with any cosmetic procedure, patients should always have realistic expectations about the outcome.
What Happens During Neck Lift Surgery?
Depending on which problem(s) you exhibit, Dr. Levens will choose the proper neck lift technique. Some patients may benefit from skin tightening while others need lifting of the sagging platysma muscle (a muscle that extends from the collarbone to the jaw). If the only problem is excess fat, then liposuction is typically the best choice.
Neck lift surgery may last one to two hours. Dr. Levens will use a local or general anesthetic, depending on your needs. For a typical neck lift, Dr. Levens will use a technique that is similar to a facelift. He performs an incision starting at the front of the earlobe, which travels around the back of your ear into your hairline. Sagging tissue and fat are removed or tightened, thereby enhancing the contour of the lower face and neck. Incisions are closed with sutures and covered with a dressing and surgical tape.
Recovery after a Neck Lift
After your neck lift with Dr. Levens, he will provide specific instructions to follow during recovery. These instructions may include steps to keep your head slightly elevated, wear a special garment on the area, and use pain medication to control discomfort. The day after your neck lift, you will be able to shower and wash your hair. But you should avoid vigorous activities for at least two weeks. When you remove the compression garment, typically one to two weeks later, you’ll be able to see the results of your neck lift.
