Fraxel Laser

article-non-surgical

Fraxel south floridaOver time and through the experiences of life, our faces begin to show signs of aging in the form of wrinkles and loose skin. In his practice, South Florida board certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Levens offers Fraxel laser treatments, which correct these common signs of aging. Fraxel works to diminish additional common skin issues, as well.

This advanced technology uses laser beams of light, which penetrate your skin in precise, targeted patterns. When the beams reach the deeper layers of your skin, older, damaged skin cells are removed and the skin's rejuvenating process is stimulated. This promotes the growth of healthy, new skin cells.

Good Candidates for Fraxel in Coral Springs

Patients of many ages and skin types are good candidates for Fraxel laser treatments. You should ask Dr. Levens about Fraxel treatments if you deal with any of the following bothersome skin issues:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • deep frown lines
  • lax skin on the face
  • uneven skin tone and texture
  • age spots
  • sun-related redness

Based on his assessment of your skin during your consultation, as well as your own aesthetic goals, Dr. Levens will create a treatment plan targeted to your specific needs. Fraxel is most often used to treat facial skin, but may also be used for the neck, chest and hands.

What Happens During a Fraxel Treatment?

Before your Fraxel treatment, the skin at the treatment site will be cleansed. Depending on the condition of your skin and the size of the area to be treated, your session may take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. The Fraxel handpiece will be passed over the surface of your skin, delivering precise, controlled columns of laser light. This light will work its way through the outer layers of your skin, promoting the growth of new, healthy skin cells and diminishing old cells.

Over a period of several days following treatment, old skin cells will flake from the treatment site as new cells appear. You will need to take care to avoid direct sun exposure for several days and should apply an SPF to protect your skin when outside. You may also need to take a day or so off work to allow time for your skin to heal.

After your skin has regenerated and new cells have emerged, you will see the dramatic effects of your Fraxel treatment. The overall health and appearance of your skin will be improved and the previous skin issues greatly diminished.
