You may have heard media reports about the one-hour facelift: a facial rejuvenation procedure that can be performed within the course of a lunch hour. But what actually happens during a one-hour facelift?

Many patients don’t know that there are a variety of different facelift procedures, ranging from minimal surgeries to the deep plane facelift. As a result, there isn’t a single “one-hour facelift,” but rather several different procedures that may take place over the course of an hour.

It’s also important to understand what the one-hour facelift is not. While nonsurgical treatments likeBotox, Restylane, and Juvederm can offer facial rejuvenation over the course of an hour, these are not facelift surgeries. Their results are temporary and limited to reducing wrinkles or adding volume to the skin. Only facelift surgery can tighten the skin and underlying tissues to provide long-lasting facial rejuvenation.

The most popular facelift procedure that may take place during the course of an hour is the mini facelift (although this can sometimes take as long as two hours). The mini facelift can address slight sagging in the jowls, and is best for people with minimal signs of aging.

However, most “one-hour facelifts” that you see advertised are simply misleading. These procedures tighten the skin without addressing any of the underlying structure of the face. While these types of procedures cause minimal discomfort and downtime, they usually offer only short-term results.

If you’re considering facelift surgery, you should make sure that the procedure will achieve the results that you desire, and be wary of claims about one-hour facelifts. Don’t settle for a surgeon that skips important steps for a faster turnaround. Unless you want a brief procedure to address minimal signs of aging, choose a facelift surgery that doesn’t cut any corners.
