Botox near Fort Lauderdale, FL

With well over 6.5 million treatments performed last year, Botox continues to prove itself the popular choice when it comes reducing facial wrinkles. At Dr. David J. Levens, this number does come as a surprise—we too understand the popularity and effectiveness of Botox. Yet, just as patients are excited for Botox, many are apprehensive and concerned about Botox’s safety. Worry no more! A recent study put out by JAMA Dermatology emphasizes the safety and low complication rate associated with Botox.

Looking not only at the safety of Botox, the researchers at Northwestern University set out “to assess the incidence of adverse events” associated with non or minimally invasive cosmetic treatments—including laser and energy treatments, neurotoxins, and fillers. Collecting data from dermatologists across the country, a total of 20,399 cosmetic procedures were performed. Of those, only 48 adverse events were reported, a mere 0.24%–leading researchers to conclude, “adverse events occur in less than 1% of patients, and most of these are minor and transient”.

For Botox specifically, researchers found that only 1 out of every 3,333 treatments resulted in some sort of negative effect such as bruising or swelling.

Botox: Proven Safe

With any repeated facial movement—whether it be a furrow of the eyebrows or a genuine smile—muscles around the eyes are compromised and weakened. To combat this, Botox works under the skin, deep into the muscle itself. The toxin blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscle, temporarily hindering the muscles from contracting. As the muscle cannot contract, lines and wrinkles are not able to form. Botox temporarily reduces:

  • Frown Lines: Wrinkles that develop in between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s Feet: Wrinkles that develop on the outer corner of the eyes
  • Worry Lines: Forehead Creases and Wrinkles

Researchers emphasized the importance of receiving Botox from a certified and skilled injector. Lead author, Dr. Murad Alam writes, when “done properly by trained physicians, these procedures are very safe “. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Levens has proven himself to be an expert surgeon as well as injector. He is dedicated to providing you with a safe and successful Botox treatment.

Botox has proven itself to be a popular, effective, and safe wrinkle-reducing treatment. This summer, say good bye to wrinkles? To learn more, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Levens. We would love to see you!
