Breast Implant Removal near Fort Lauderdale, FL

Are you unhappy with your breasts and ready to have your breast implants removed? While the surgery may seem straightforward, special considerations are necessary to ensure that your breasts appear natural after having your breast implants removed. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. David J. Levens has the expertise that women in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County need to know that their breast implant removal surgery will maintain a natural and attractive appearance to their breasts.

What is Breast Implant Removal?

Typically many years after initial breast implant surgery, or for the unusual woman who has experienced many problems with her implants, some will choose to have their breast implants removed. Years after their initial surgery, some women decide that their larger breasts are no longer appealing for themselves whether personally or professionally.

How Much Does Breast Implant Removal Cost?

The cost of Implant Removal (Explant) starts at $4,200.00. However, prices may vary due to specials and/or the facility used. An individual treatment plan will be developed during your consultation with Dr. Levens. After the appointment, we provide you with a total cost and explain our payment options, including cash, personal check, Visa®, MasterCard® and American Express®.  If you are interested in financing your breast implant removal, our patient coordinators will explain how to apply for CareCredit®, Alphaeon Credit, or Prosper® Healthcare Lending.

Benefits of Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal attempts to restore your breasts to a smaller but pleasing natural shape and size. Reasons that women choose to undergo breast implant removal surgery include:

  • A history of problems such as pain or persistent capsular contracture.
  • A feeling that they have “outgrown” their desire for implants due to age or change in relationships.
  • To reduce the need for future surgery such as replacement or ultimately removal surgery.

Good Candidates for Breast Implant Removal

Most women are good candidates for breast implant removal, but Dr. Levens takes the time to ensure that each woman understands the implications of the procedure. If you undergo breast implant removal surgery without careful consideration, you may decide later on to undergo a second surgery to have the implants replaced.

What Happens During Breast Implant Removal?

The scars from your breast augmentation normally provide the optimum location for the incisions that are used for breast implant removal. In some cases, though, Dr. Levens may need to extend the incisions beyond the existing scar line or make incisions in another location. Once he has access to the breast tissue and implant, he carefully removes the implant from the tissue pocket. Next, he evaluates the natural breast tissue to determine the steps needed to restore the natural shape of the breast. He may need to remove, reposition (lift) or preserve scar tissue, skin, fat and breast tissue as he shapes the breast.

Recovery after Breast Implant Removal

You will need to rest at home for the first 48 to 72 hours after your breast implant removal surgery.  You can then resume your normal activities, but should avoid any strenuous activities for at least three weeks.  You will have some tenderness, swelling and pain while you heal, and Dr. Levens will prescribe a pain medication and antibiotics. Full recovery takes a few weeks.
