Case Study: Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation before and after

When Janice Marks*, 33, nursed her second child for 14 months, her breast size went from a full A to a C. When she stopped nursing, her breasts “practically disappeared”, she says. An augmentation reversed that.

“I was never unhappy being a full A,” Janice adds. “But after nursing, I was so flatchested I really wanted to do something to give my figure better balance.” After consulting with three plastic surgeons, Janice chose Dr. Levens “because he really listened to me...I knew I wanted to be a C and the other surgeons kept trying to talk me into a D.”

She’s delighted with the results: “My breasts look completely natural in all types of attire and no one would get I’d had implants. The process itself was easy. I stopped taking the pain pills 24 hours after surgery and I was scuba diving 2 weeks later.”

The Procedure: Dr. Levens placed the incisions at the fold beneath Janice’s breast. He then lifted the breast tissue and chest muscle and placed the implants under the muscle. After positioning the implants, Janice was elevated to a sitting position to visualize the overall appearance to check for position, proportion and symmetry of the two breasts. He then closed the incisions with tiny sutures beneath the skin to minimize visibility of the scar.

Note: Depending on the patient’s preference and chest anatomy, the incisions can be placed at the areola or in the fold beneath the breast. The implant can be placed beneath the breast tissue or beneath the muscle. In either case, the breast tissue is located in front of the implant where it can be readily examined.
