Case Study: Tummy Tuck
Her adult children have left home, but the bulging belly Marie K. developed after her pregnancies just wouldn’t go away.
At 46, Marie, of Tamarac, FL, opted for a tummy tuck which reduced her dress size from a 14 to an 8.
“After my pregnancies, my stomach got soft,” she says. “I never had a lot of excess skin, but the muscles were weak and I did not like the way I looked in clothes. Nothing I tried helped. My kids are now 18 and 22, and I decided it was time to do something for me.
“I took my time finding just the right surgeon. Dr. Levens was highly recommended by one of my clients and I liked everything about the his credentials and his attitude.
“People definitely notice that I look trimmer, but the best part of my tummy tuck is that it’s been great for my self-image. For the first time in many years, I really like the way I look.”
The Procedure: Dr. Levens placed incisions low on Marie’s abdomen to conceal them, then lifted skin and fat off the abdomen’s underlying musculature. He tightened fascia (the tissue that interconnects the muscles) by placing multiple rows of sutures, thus reshaping the abdomen’s underlying framework. He then pulled skin and fat downward, and removed excess skin. The umbilicus (belly button) was repositioned, and all incisions were then closed with sutures placed beneath the skin. During the surgery, Dr. Levens also performed lipoplasty, using a tiny cannula tube to remove excess fat on the front and on the side’s of Marie’s torso.
