Case Study: Breast Augmentation
Since her teenage years, Judy C. had wanted to increase her breast size to "look better in a swimsuit, but mostly to have a better proportioned figure." At 25, she decided "the time was right."
"I wore a padded size 34B bra, but I was actually a large size A," she says. "It always bothered me that I looked flat-chested. Most other people probably didn’t notice because I’m a dental assistant and wear scrubs at work, but it bugged me. I put off have implant surgery because of the cost and then decided, hey, this is something I really want to do, for me and nobody else. Just do it."
Judy was referred to Dr. Levens by a friend and said the experience was "just great…I literally had no pain after the surgery and I am now a size 36C. I look so much better in clothes and friends definitely notice the change, but that’s not what’s important. I did this for me.”
The Procedure: Dr. Levens placed the incision at the fold beneath Judy’s breast. He then lifted the breast tissue and chest muscle and placed the implant under the muscle. After positioning the implant, he closed the incisions with very tiny sutures beneath the skin to minimize the visibility of the scar.
Note: Depending on the patient’s preference and chest anatomy, the incisions can be placed at the areola or in the fold beneath the breast. The implant can be placed beneath the breast tissue or beneath the muscle. In either case, the breast tissue is located in front of the implant where it can be readily examined.
