Case Study: Breast Augmentation & Lift
“I’ve always had the chest of a 10-year-old,” laughs Debbie R*, 35, of Parkland, “except when I was nursing my daughter for 9 months. I went from flat to large then, but afterwards I was flat again…plus droopy and noticeably asymmetrical.
“Nothing ever fit right and I had no self-confidence about my figure,” she adds. “After my divorce, I wanted a new look that would help me feel more confident in work and social situations. My breast augmentation and lift did the job!”
Debbie was referred to Dr. Levens by a co-worker who once worked in the medical field. “She always said she’d seen his work and if I ever wanted to have plastic surgery, I should go to him. Also, several people at the nail salon I go to had surgeries or treatments with Dr. Levens and raved about him.”
The Procedure: Dr. Levens made incisions around the areolae removed excess skin and breast tissue. He then repositioned the beast mound upward and repositioned her nipple and areola upward on the newly shaped breast. He then lifted the breast tissue and chest muscle and placed the implants under the muscle. After positioning the implants, Debbie was elevated to a sitting position so Dr. Levens could visualize the overall appearance to check for position, proportion and symmetry of the two breasts. He then closed the incisions with tiny sutures beneath the skin to minimize visibility of the scar.
Note: The implant can be placed beneath the breast tissue or beneath the muscle. In either case, the breast tissue is located in front of the implant where it can be readily examined.
Recovery: After a breast lift, the breasts may feel tight for a few days. This gradually fades as swelling decreases. Slight bruising may occur and it too will fade in 7-10. Breast lift is done as an out-patient procedure. The typical schedule of recovery is: Bruising and swelling, 10-14 days; return to work & social activity, 5-10 days; aerobic or strenuous activity, 14-21days. As there are slightly longer scars needed for the lift compared to an implant alone, much attention is focused on scar treatment after surgery to assure minimal visibility.
Debbie’s Results: “My bustline is now much more attractive but very natural-looking,” she says. “Originally, I wanted to go larger but Dr. Levens said that considering my small stature, I shouldn’t be larger than a C cup. I’m very grateful for his good judgment because I now feel that any larger would look artificial. He knows what he’s doing.”
