A thin layer of normal fat is left beneath the skin to prevent rippling or dimpling. Incisions are closed with tiny sutures leaving small scars in concealed areas when possible.

Part Three: The Breasts

“At 50, my breasts looked flat and droopy. I had to pad my bras and swimsuit tops,” says Melinda A, of Boca Raton. “I didn't want to be voluptuous, just more feminine looking, whether I'm wearing a blazer or a bikini. My breast augmentation made that happen.”

Dr. Levens placed the incision at the border of Melinda's areola, then lifted breast tissue and chest muscle and placed the implant under the muscle. He then closed the incisions with tiny sutures beneath the skin to minimize scar visibility.

Note: Depending on the patient's preference and chest anatomy, incisions can be placed at the areola or beneath the breast. The implant can be placed beneath breast tissue or beneath muscle. Either way, the breast tissue is located in front of the implant where it can be readily examined.

Cosmetic Surgery Factoids:
According to a recent American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery survey, 20% of Americans hope to have cosmetic surgery. 83% believe personal appearance is key to professional success. 46% said they'd rather spend money on cosmetic surgery that a pricey vacation or luxury car. The two most-wanted celebrity features were Jennifer Aniston's eyes and Nick Lachey's abs.

Reducing under-eye puffiness:
If the problem is water retention or lack of sleep, lie down with a moist, cold washcloth over your eyes for 10-15 minutes. Or moisten 2 teabags with cold water and rest them on your eyes. Tannin in the tea may help tighten the skin and reduce puffiness. For persistent bagginess caused by aging, eyelid surgery can remove excess skin to create a smoother, younger look.

Remedies for thin lips:
Soft-tissue fillers (collagen, fat, or hyaluronic acid) can be injected to plump up thin lips but results are temporary. Permanent solution is a synthetic implant inserted beneath the skin. A third option is a lip lift which shortens the distance between the bottom of the nose and the top of the upper lip to give the appearance of greater fullness.

Deirdre's Spring Pick
NIA 24 T

One in 5 Americans will eventually have skin cancer. The risk of deadly melanoma has doubled in 10 years. Fortunately, 97% of all skin cancers are preventable.

“That's why I love a new product we're carrying called NIA 24™,” says Deirdre Fields, Levens Skin Care Clinic Director. “It was developed with funding from the National Institutes of Health. Niacin-based, it's the most impressive skin therapy I've ever seen, working from within the skin to both prevent and repair sun damage.

“It also improves skin texture, treats fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and age spots,” Deirdre adds. “As an aesthetician, I am delighted to recommend this therapy.”
