Latest Stats: Racial and ethnic minorities accounted for 20% of all cosmetic procedures performed last year, up 14% from 2000. Hispanics led in numbers of procedures (8.5%) followed by African-Americans (6.2%) Asians (4.6%) and other non-Caucasians (1.1%). The total number of surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in the United States increased by 44 percent in 2004 to a total of nearly 11.9 million.

Prediction for 2006:

In a survey of leading plastic surgeons around the country, most predicted that silicone gel breast implants will be approved by the FDA in 2006 and will dominate the US market, due largely to their more natural feel and appearance. Gel implants have dominated global markets for the past fifteen years.

New Website on Breast
Implant Safety

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons have launched a new website: www.breastimplantsafety.org.

It has information on breast implants, lifts and reconstruction, plus updates and comparative information on new devices and procedures, information on implant revisions/replacements and more.
