| Case Study: Nasal Reshaping |
Kate McDermott, Coral Springs, calls her nasal reshaping by Dr. Levens
"the best.it's a tremendous improvement but it's so natural-looking
that when I came home from school for the holidays, relatives said,
'Wow, she really grew into her nose!' I'm so glad I decided to do it."
| Facelift, continued from cover |
In the neck area, neck muscles were corrected to provide better support
and ideal contour. In both face and neck areas, excess or malpositioned
fatty tissue was removed or sculpted. After re-draping the skin and
soft tissues, excess tissue was removed and the incisions closed.
To lift and reduce volume in the upper eyelids, Dr. Levens made incisions
in the fold of the eyelids, removed fat and skin and closed the incisions
with tiny sutures. He used a fat graft to fill in hollows under the
eyes. He also injected fat grafts into Lee Ann's "laugh lines" and used
dermabrasion around her mouth and chin to smooth fine wrinkles. Post
surgery, he injected Botox to reduce frown lines and Restylane to fine-tune
contours.
"I was amazed.you can't see any scars," Lee Ann says. "I don't have
that stretched, facelift look. It's very natural-looking. People don't
say, 'Hey, you got a great facelift', they say 'Wow, you look great
and so rested.' That was my goal and Dr. Levens achieved it."

Out,
out, darn spot! Hyperpigmentation: It can be
treated!
What causes those annoying dark spots
that seem impervious to over-the-counter treatments?
According to Deidre Fields, at the Levens Skin Care Clinic,
hyperpigmentation can result from pregnancy, birth control
pills, medications, and most commonly, from excessive
sun exposure.
"Hyperpigmentation can definitely be resolved, but the
treatment is a process, not a single event," says Deidre,
a Certified Clinical Aesthetician with 10 years experience.
"The dark pigmentation is not just a stain on the skin's
surface. It is produced by damaged cells below the surface.
So even if you use a laser or deep chemical peel to remove
the dark area, it will recur because the underlying cells
are still producing darkened pigment."
That's why Deidre recommends "a steady diet of skin bleachers,
such as hydroquinone and kojik acid, antioxidants and
a high quality sunblock. Appropriate clinic treatments
keep the skin primed and ready to accept homecare products
that should be used daily. Healthy skin tissue responds
much better to corrective change. With patience and ongoing
care, the skin can certainly be renewed."
Deidre offers corrective treatments for a variety of skin
conditions, as well as facials and peels. Also available
are permanent make-up and eyebrow reshaping services from
licensed aesthetician Graciella Smyth.
