Liposuction in Miramar, FL

Scientists have discovered that not all fat cells are created the same way, which is why it is often difficult to remove fat from stubborn areas no matter how much you improve your diet or how regularly you exercise. Our plastic surgery clinic in Coral Springs now offers men and women in Miramar, Florida, the chance to quickly eliminate unwanted fat in order to achieve a perfect beach body.

What is Liposuction? A Body-Slimming Procedure

When unpleasant fat deposits refuse to respond to diet and exercise, liposuction may be the right answer. Quickly and safely eliminating these fat pockets results in a more sculpted and pleasing body shape. Liposuction can offer quick results for people wanting to improve how they look in swimsuits, pants, and other snug forms of apparel. With a more attractive weight distribution, patients find they can stop buying oversized clothes in order to hide unsightly fat deposits. Liposuction, sometimes called lipoplasty, involves using small tubes inserted beneath the skin to quickly remove fat deposits from localized areas on the body. Liposuction can be very effective at removing unsightly fat from the neck, abdomen, sides of the torso (often called “love handles”), the back, thighs, hips, ankles, calves, buttocks, and around the knees.

Good Candidates for Liposuction

This safe and proven cosmetic procedure is recommended for healthy men and women who have stubborn local fat deposits but are not generally obese. The elasticity of the patient’s skin is also critical for determining if liposuction is right for you. Once the fat is removed from the skin, the skin will become loose. Depending on the amount of fat removed and your skin’s quality, skin may become flabby. For individuals with loose skin, the liposuction procedure may not be advisable without an additional procedure to remove the excess skin. There are no hard age limits that determine who is a good candidate for liposuction, but those older than 45-50 or may have lost too much skin elasticity for the treatment to be advisable.

What Happens During Liposuction?

Before the procedure begins, Dr. Levens will mark the areas of your body where fat deposits will be removed. Extremely small incisions will then be made in concealed areas. Suction tubes will then be inserted and connected to the underlying fat for suctioning. Once the fat has been removed, a tiny incision will be made in an adjacent area, and the procedure will be repeated. By carefully observing each side for symmetry, Dr. Levens will sculpt the body to make sure that the body has an identical amount of fat removed on each side. The procedure ends with Dr. Levens carefully closing the incisions with surgical stitches.

The incisions will be covered with a sterile dressing and gentle pressure applied to prevent a build-up of fluid in the treated areas. Some minor scarring may result at the site of the stitches. Patients undergoing a liposuction treatment will be able to shower and bathe normally within a few days of undergoing the procedure.
