IPL Photo Rejuvenation
Though light from the sun can cause damage to your skin, light therapy treatments like IPL can actually work to reverse some of those signs of damage. In his Coral Springs cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. David Levens offers IPL treatments to improve the overall health of your skin and reduce the appearance of unwanted age spots.
IPL, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light, is a light therapy that works with your skin to remove bothersome pigmentation inconsistencies. It is also a popular method for long-term hair removal for some individuals.
Good Candidates for IPL in Coral Springs
IPL is an excellent treatment for reducing some of the most common skin issues we all deal with today. Though it is most commonly applied to the face, IPL can work well on the neck, chest and hands, as well. Treatments of IPL at Dr. Levens' practice can be used to diminish:
- hyperpigmentation
- age spots
- freckles
- sun-related redness
- rosacea
- broken capillaries
For patients with fair skin, IPL is great for removing hair that would usually require waxing, plucking, shaving or bleaching.
When you visit Dr. Levens' office for your consultation, we will ask you about your skin and your cosmetic goals. After examining any problem areas on your skin, we can devise an IPL treatment plan that is customized to your needs.
What Happens During IPL Treatment?
Prior to your IPL treatment, the skin at the treatment site will be cleansed. A handpiece which generates the light, will then be uniformly passed over the surface of your skin, heating it in pulses. The light damages the unwanted pigment at the treatment site, causing it to be cleared away by your natural healing processes. The pigment in unwanted hair follicles is also targeted in this manner, which stops hair growth.
After Your IPL Procedure
When you leave your IPL treatment, you will be given aftercare instructions by Dr. Levens' staff. You will be asked to avoid sun exposure and to apply a daily SPF to shield your skin whenever you are outside. You may experience some redness from the treatment and even a darkening of hyperpigmentation, but these will dissipate over the next day.
After your skin has regenerated from the IPL treatment, you will witness a marked decrease in pigmentation-related issues. Your skin tone will be more even and may appear healthier and even younger.
