Facial Implants

article-cosmetic

Many people desire prominent facial features, but not everyone is naturally endowed with strong, defined facial contours. For these men and women, South Florida board certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Levens performs facial implant surgeries.

By inserting a facial implant into certain areas of the face, Dr. Levens is able to improve the overall facial harmony and raise depressed areas of the face for a healthier and more vivacious appearance.

In some cases, facial implants may also be used to correct certain types of deformities or trauma to the bone structure.

Good Candidates for Facial Implants in Coral Springs

Individuals interested in facial implants should be healthy, non-smokers with realistic expectations of the outcome. In his Coral Springs plastic surgery practice, Dr. Levens uses:

  • chin implants
  • jaw implants
  • cheek implants

In your consultation, Dr. Levens will discuss your cosmetic goals with you. He will make recommendations for treatment based on your goals and may even suggest another treatment or procedure to help you meet them. For example, a nose surgery may improve the appearance of your chin in comparison.

What Happens During the Facial Implant Procedure?

For your facial implant surgery, you will be given a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic with sedation. Depending on the type of implant you choose, the treatment time can vary.

Dr. Levens uses cheek implants to improve the appearance of fullness in the cheeks. In this surgery, Dr. Levens will use small screws to affix an alloplastic implant to the cheek bone. He will insert the implant through an incision inside your mouth.

A jaw implant may be used to add projection to the jaw or widen its appearance. Like a cheek implant, Dr. Levens will make careful incisions inside the mouth through which he will place the implant, affixing it to your jaw.

Chin implants are often used to add projection to a weak chin. To insert the implant, Dr. Levens will either make an incision inside the mouth or under the chin. The implant will then be fixed in place.

After Facial Implant Surgery

After your facial implant procedure, you will be given aftercare instructions. You will likely need to be on a liquid diet for several days as your incisions heal and your mouth and jaw adjust to the implants. You will also need to take care to maintain a strict oral hygiene regimen to avoid possible infection. Dr. Levens may prescribe medication to help you manage any discomfort.

When you have healed and any swelling has dissipated, you will see the full effects of your procedure. Your facial contours will be more defined and display better projection.
